Brave, porky star of Mudgeeraba Show
DELILAH the "Porky Pig" was attacked by a dog the day before the start of the Mudgeeraba Show, but she was not going to let that ruin her show debut.
The two year-old pig from Nerang was attacked by a Staffordshire bull terrier on Friday morning, leaving a deep laceration on her snout.
Despite her injury the pig was a star attraction for both days of the show as part of the Mudgeeraba Lions Club Guess the Weight competition.
Owner of the pig, Charles Pye, 10, said Delilah would roll over if her belly was tickled, a trick everybody wanted to see.
However, with her injury clearly causing her pain, Delilah had little interest in entertaining others.
Charles's father Ian Pye said the animal was `part of the family' and her injuries had left them shocked.
"When I first heard what had happened I wasn't very happy. It was a bit of a shock," he said.
The Mudgeeraba Show drew to a close yesterday afternoon and show president Helen Ripper said it had been the busiest show yet.
"The show attracted about 33,000 people over the two days, which was a 10 per cent increase on last year," she said.
The show, which was in its 83rd year, showcased a range of food and events from woodchopping and hay-stacking competitions, to arts, crafts and homemade chutneys.
