The Western Australian auditor general has found at least 14 state government agencies don't have the adequate systems in place to detect or respond to a cyber attack.
The Office of the Auditor General engaged Edith Cowan University to launch external attacks on 15 government agencies, including the health, transport, mine and petroleum departments, as well as the Fremantle Port Authority and Western Power.
In his report the Auditor General says these attacks were deliberately hostile, meaning they were prolonged and continuous in an effort to have them detected.
Auditor General Colin Murphy says only one of the 15 agencies detected the attacks.
