Strongsville to dedicate new youth baseball fields on July 15

From left, Strongsville Mayor Thomas Perciak, former state Rep. Matt Patten (D-18), Sen. Tom Patton (R-24), Ohio Department of Natural Resources Director Sean Logan and former Strongsville Director of Parks, Recreation and Senior Services Steve Kilo pose during a check presentation ceremony in September 2010 at Lunn Road's Youth Sports Park. The $250,000 in ODNR funding was utilized in the construction of three new youth baseball fields, and a dedication ceremony is planned for July 15 at the park.

The city of Strongsville will celebrate the completion of three new youth baseball fields at the Youth Sports Park with a dedication ceremony at 5 p.m. July 15 at the park, 21255 Lunn Road.

The project was financed through a $250,000 grant by the Ohio Department of Natural Resources - awarded in conjunction with Ohio House Bill 562 - and a $50,000 donation from the Strongsville Travel Baseball Association.

The ODNR funds were originally slated for an outdoor water facility behind Royalton Road's Walter F. Ehrnfelt Recreation Center, where the existing youth baseball fields are situated. Approval was granted to transfer the money to the new youth baseball field construction project.

Activities will now be relocated to the new Lunn Road fields. More than 2,000 boys and girls are expected to utilize the facilities each year.

The outdoor water facility project is in the initial planning stages, according to a city press release.

Strongsville Recreation Center Nickelodeon Days Of Play ...

This class isn’t about just going out and playing sports. It’s about going out with the kids and getting them active. We do a wide variety of games such as freeze tag, ghost in the graveyard and things like that. It’s about getting kids outside away from the TV and video games. The kids love to go outside. When it’s raining they are really bummed out. I really love it. I enjoy going out there and playing different games and watching them.
