Do I have a leak?

&Nbsp;     The main pipe extends from the water source and is routed to the remote control valves (rc) of your sprinkler system. When a station rc valve is activated by the control box either manually or automatically, water flows through to the sprinkler heads downstream. Many sprinkler systems also include a master  rc valve at the water source. This provides some safeguard if the main pipe should get damaged, or a rc valve `sticks` open. Water would only escape past the master valve while the system was scheduled to operate. Without the master valve, a leak in the main piping downstream would be constant.         Sprinkler systems are required to have a backflow prevention valve installed at the water source. This device prevents reverse flow from your sprinkler system back into our potable water supply. This valve is commonly found close to the water meter, but can be anywhere along the water supply pipe to your house.      Most sprinkler systems in our area will have an in-ground double-check valve assembly. Typically installed in a rectangular, usually green, access box. Less commonly, a few cities such as Trophy Club have above-ground valves, called vacuum breakers , that are usually hidden close to the house for protection or aesthetics.                             If this valve can`t be found, or the handles are missing or deteriorated, you must close the water meter valve instead. This would leave you without house water supply until the repair is made. Before you spend time digging up pipes, verify that the puddle of water is in fact coming from your sprinkler system, and not your neighbor`s, or the collection of water isn`t just a drainage problem caused by too frequent watering. Not all leaks are constant. Sometimes, a broken head or pipe is causing a saturated area due to regular water scheduling of that sprinkler station.
