Hornets wary of lion pride
For Howick Hornets player-coach Lee Wetherill, he’s expecting nothing short of a huge battle against the Mt Albert Lions, when the sides clash at Paparoa Park this Saturday, June 25.
The Lions, who have won many Auckland club rugby league Fox Memorial Trophy championships, have been beaten by the Hornets twice this season and Wetherill knows “they don’t like us. This is a danger game for us.”
Last Saturday, June 18, the Hornets defeated the only side they’ve lost to this year, Glenora Bears, 19-10.
Wetherill says it’s good for his team to know they’re capable of beating all opponents in the eight-team first division, despite the ongoing injury concerns, which has up to five regular starters sidelined. The latest casualties are Andrew Wharton and former Auckland rep, centre Chris Taumoepeau, who has just returned from a knee injury only to have broken his hand against Glenora.
