Police release details about victim in 'John Doe' murder
Reported Police Chief Art Fuentes told them that although the man’s body hadn’t been found, many body parts had been found in the city’s landfill Aug. 3 following a search there. Fuentes told the newspaper Tuesday evening that Aug. 2, cadaver dogs from Hondo had pointed out an area in the landfill, and city workers had set about going through that area the next day. Fuentes also told The Pioneer that Fort Stockton resident Dustin Allen Horton, 23, had put the man’s intact body in a garbage bin after killing him, which is how it got to the landfill, and eventually in the state it was in. The Pioneer reported that Fuentes said that because the deceased man was not from the area and Horton appears not to have known him, to identify him, investigators are relying on people who recognize the man and may have spoken with him, learning his name or where he was from. Horton confessed to police on Aug. 2 to killing the man July 28, according to Horton’s arrest affidavit. During his confession, made both on video and audio, Horton told police he stabbed the man multiple times in the chest with a knife and had told his mother he killed a homeless man, the affidavit stated. The Pioneer reported Horton is originally from Monahans. Many of you have expressed concerns about some of the harsh anonymous comments from readers. To remedy that, we are introducing new features.
