Ballard has written and produced mega chart-topping hits by Michael Jackson, Alanis Morissette, Dave Matthews Band, Goo Goo Dolls and Wilson Phillips, as well as compositions for Christian Aguilera, Sarah McLachlan, Shakira and Van Halen, among others. In addition to co-writing "Man in the Mirror for Jackson, Ballard co-wrote and produced Alanis Morissette's blockbuster 1995 album, "Jagged Little Pill." Hamlisch's catalog of iconic copyrights include music to the Tony Award Winning musical, "A Chorus Line." As a songwriter, he penned numerous hit songs, including "One," "The Way We Were," "Life Is What You Make It," "The Last Time I Felt Like This," "Through The Eyes of Love," and "Sunshine, Lollipops and Rainbows." He has also provided scores and songs for numerous films, including "The Way We Were," "The Sting," "The Spy Who Loved Me," "Same Time Next Year," "Ice Castles," "Shirley Valentine" "The Mirror Has Two Faces," and "Sophie's Choice." Two years ago, Spirit acquired a 60% interest in those publishing catalog and now has acquired the remainder from Guercio. The song catalog includes music recorded by Chicago through the 1970s, an era including 11 albums and such hits as "Does Anybody Really Know What Time It Is," "Color My World" and "Saturday in the Park." Also included in the deal are the Buckingham hits "Kind of a Drag," "Don't You Care," "Hey Baby (They're Playing Our Song)" and "Susan," as well as several mid-'70s hits by seminal funk band Rufus, including "Close the Door," "Everlasting Love" and the much sampled "Hollywood." Additionally, the Spirit companies will continue to own and manage a significant stake in Guercio's producer royalties for the classic Chicago and Buckinghams releases, as well as Blood Sweat & Tears' eponymous 1969 breakthrough album, which featured the standards "You've Made Me So Very Happy," "And When I Die" and "Spinning Wheel".    Since inking the initial deal in September 2009, the Spirit staff has been actively working the catalog to a wide range of media, including Miramax' feature "The Switch," trailers for Universal's "Couple's Retreat" and Dreamworks' "Puss N Boots"; network television shows "C.S.I. Miami," "Bones, Rules Of Engagement," "Ugly Betty," "The Cleveland Show" and "So You Think You Can Dance;" for network branding campaigns for ABC and Fox; for a national advertising campaign for Nestle's Crunch; and for such videogames as "Rock Band 3" and "DJ Hero 2.
