, But when my parents fatefully packed my SNES out of reach as we looked for a new house, they decided it might be fair to buy me a console to replace it. They took me to whatever the local wholesale store was and convinced me that I might like a system called the Sega Genesis. The console came bundled with two games: the newly-released Sonic the Hedgehog 2 , which revolutionized the franchise and applied it to one end-to-end story that had me playing over and over again.Even after I got 100% completion and all Emeralds with every character combination available (Sonic alone, Sonic with Tails, Tails, and Knuckles), I decided I still wanted to continue the experience. I feverishly read magazines like GamePro and EGM to figure out how I could expand the experience and came across only one way: GameShark on Game Gear as an old man to my left put up with my pontificating about how awesome Sonic was the whole way down. That old man probably wanted nothing more than to suffocate me with the in-flight pillow.
I still remember, clear as day, heading over to my neighbor’s house one afternoon in 1999.
