Cubicle chic: Guilford grad shows you how to dress for success with style

After talking with Mueller, a born fashionista, it is clear why she and Duncan succeeded in making “Cubicle Chic” the success it is today. After graduating from New York University with a degree in journalism and psychology, Mueller went on to law school and eventually took a job at a law firm as a paralegal, both places where she met her current blogging partner Duncan. Mueller explained the idea behind Cubicle Chic: “We do think there is a need for people to know how to dress for the office. People who wear T-shirts, khakis, and sheer tops to the office are not OK. Some people, after working at the same place for a while, relax (their style) a little. Dressing within the lines of the dress code can be hard, but our blog makes it a little easier,” said Mueller. In one of her classes entitled, “Journalistic Inquiry,” one of the requirements was to create a blog. For Mueller, learning to blog was easy to do and maintaining it was just as easy. She explained that no one wants to go to your blog that only has pictures that have been published elsewhere (that is why all of the photos on her blog are originals). So, she and partner Duncan took html classes and applied what they learned here and applied it to their blog. “We knew we wanted a blog because the Internet is accessible and easy to learn. We can play around with it. There are a lot of templates available. It is hard to come up the resources and money you need to start something like a magazine, like to get photographers, to get models, to get make-up. Everyone wants something,” said Mueller. “Actually printing is expensive. Blogging is easy, quick, cheap. It is easy and on the go.” But do not get Mueller wrong: “Magazines will always have a soft spot in my heart,” she said. “I always wanted to be a magazine editor but fewer and fewer people are doing a lot of that work. I am going in direction of where the media is going. Plus, it is fun to experiment with social networking. My partner and I are creating a blogging community and creating contacts.” In fact, Mueller is doing an amazing job of doing just that: creating a blogging community. “Cubicle Chic” has a collection of loyal followers that comment each day on the blog and Facebook.
